Norway is calling and I MUST GO! That's right theme T-Shirts for this trip! We started out our Norway and three week Europe Journey in Oslo. This was a great city. Things to do, lots of places to pick from for great eats, a great walking town, and museums! What more could we ask for when starting our journey around Oslo.
S&J - Nordic Trip 2018 (Oslo, Norway). Part of the Sentrum area, Aker Brygge is known for its pier, where eateries with outdoor tables serve upscale Nordic and French cuisine, or casual fare like burgers and steak. A popular summer boat bar is moored nearby, and ferries depart year-round for the scenic Oslo Fjord. Local cultural draws include the Nobel Peace Center, with exhibits on the famous prize, and the striking Astrup Fearnley Museum of Modern Art. Very modern city on the water, boats docked and sailing around, people swimming, plenty of restaurants and ice cream places to pick from, beautiful evening to be walking along the water.
So many boats, and the Fjord water is just so blue!
The city is so modern.
Grabbing our first dinner in Oslo. So many wonderful dining options not a far walk from the hotel.
Dinner at Dognvill Burger - Sterke Nils (burger with sautéed habanero, green chilies and jalapeño peppers) and sides!
Taking a break from walking around the city on DAY 1.
Next to the pier is the Fish market, seafood restaurant and sushi and oyster bar on City Hall Pier. The seafood counter is packed with fresh fish daily. Fish market we came across on our walk around Oslo. Oslo is a very easy city to navigate around.
Indre Oslo Fjord Fiskerlag. Try saying that fast five times!
All that walking earned us a treat! Sarek had Swiss Heritage Quality ice cream for dessert.
YUM!
Where we stayed in Oslo: The Thief Hotel, a fantastic LUXE home base for a few days before moving on to see the rest of the country. Our room was modern and super comfortable. They offered a wonderful morning breakfast. We enjoyed drinks on the rooftop bar our last evening. We would stay here again for sure.
The Thief was named one of 9 of Norway’s Most Stylish Fjord Hotels by Architectural Digest. "The Thief, on the tiny Oslo islet of Tjuvholmen, reflects the aesthetic sensibilities of its owner, Norwegian art-loving billionaire Petter Stordalen, with original artwork gracing the lobby, rooms, and even the elevators. The hotel is just steps from the Renzo Piano–designed Astrup Fearnley Museum of Modern Art, in an area that once housed a prison but has since been revitalized into one of the most exciting districts in the capital." - AD
Drinks on the rooftop bar:
Sarek enjoying a Thief Muel, cocktail made with vodka, spicy ginger beer, and garnished with a slice of dried lime. #oslo #norway #hotel #thethief #boutiquehotel #theroofisopen #sjrnorway2018 #akerbrygge #thiefmuel
The Thief, a Boutique Hotel Oslo, Norway. Tjuvholmen (Thief Islet) used to be a haven for smugglers, thieves and scoundrels. Today it is home to THE THIEF, a modern hideaway – right in the middle of downtown Oslo. THE THIEF is filled with International art pieces, global Nordic cuisine, and a cosmopolitan roof bar. Our first hotel on the trip! Drinks in the evening. Rooftop Bar.
